Enter Student Grades (Assess Performance)

Solution

IBS 2.7 > Faciliator Functions

The Assess Performance function allows you to view or enter grades for the students enrolled in your class.

Viewing Assessment Data

  1. In the sidebar menu, under Facilitators, select Assess Performance. A list of classes for which you are the facilitator will appear.

  2. The Grading Protocol column indicates whether you have defined a valid grading protocol for the class. You cannot view student scores or enter grades until the protocol has been defined. Click the entry in this column if you need to define or edit your grading protocol.

  3. After you have defined the grading protocol for the class, you may view or enter student grades. Click Assess Performance in the Action column. You will see a table listing the students in your class.

  4. You may use this screen to view information about your student:
    • Click the student's name to open a new window in which you can type a message to the student. This uses the IBS notices system; the message will appear in the student’s My IBS Portal page.
Note: the IBS notices system is a one-way communication system and does not permit the student to reply to you. If you want a reply, you may include your email address in the notice and ask the student to reply that way.
    • Each student's class completion status is displayed.
    • Click View to view the student’s Life Notebook.
    • Each student's system scores (scores on LSCs and UEs) are displayed.
    • The current running average score for each student is displayed.
      • The first number indicates how many percentage points (out of 100 possible) the student has accumulated so far. This number will increase if more grades are entered.
      • The second number (in parentheses) indicates the average score the student has achieved on each assessment that has been graded so far. This number may increase or decrease as more assessments are added, depending on how well the student scores on each assessment.
      • If the student has failed to achieve the minimum score on an assessment for which a fail factor has been enabled, the word FAIL will appear next to his running average score.
    • Each student's final score is displayed (if you have recorded it - see below).
    • To see the grades that are being used to calculate these scores, click Edit. This will display the grades you have already entered for each assessment.

To enter grades for a class:

  1. Display the list of students in your class as described above.

  2. In the Grade Assessments column, click Edit. A list of the assessments you defined in your grading protocol appears.

      - The weight of each assessment (that is, the percentage of the final grade that is determined by that assessment) is shown in parentheses.
      - If you have enabled the fail factor for an assessment, the Passing Mark (PM), or minimum passing score, will be displayed also.

  3. Enter the grades for the student. You need not enter grades for all assessments at this time; you can come back to this screen later to enter additional grades.

  4. If you want to update the student's class completion status at this time, you may do so using the dropdown menu. See Confirm Class Completion for more information.

  5. Click Save Record when finished. The current running average score will update automatically when the record is saved.

  6. If you have finished recording the results of all assessments for this student, you may click Save & Display Final. The student will then be able to see his/her scores by selecting Students > Learn > Check My Scores from the sidebar menu. You can still edit grades, if necessary, after performing this operation.

Saving grades to transcript

After the conclusion of the class, when you are sure that all grades are final. click Save to Transcript at the bottom of the list of students. Once the grades are saved to the transcript, you can no longer change any grades for the class.
