Your Life Notebook

Solution

IBS 2.7 > Classroom Functions

In some IBS courses, you will see references to what we call a Life Notebook. This notebook has two purposes.

  • First, it is a personal spiritual life journal that you will maintain and add to as you go through your Internet Biblical Seminary course. In this Life Notebook, you should enter what you are learning, how it is impacting your life and, perhaps, questions you have.
  • Secondly, the Life Notebook is a place where you will record your answers to essay-type questions which are reflective in nature. These questions will relate to practical application issues such as your walk with God, teaching this material to others by leading your own group, and practical character lessons you learn through studying the lesson.

If you are taking a facilitated course, your notebook will become the basis for much of the discussion that goes on during the weekly seminars with other members of your group. It is the place where you can journal your growth in Christ.

To open your Life Notebook, you must be inside an IBS classroom. The notebook is unique to that classroom, so if you are taking two IBS classes, you will have a separate notebook for each class. Your notebook will remain intact for as long as you are enrolled in the class. If you would like to keep a copy of your notebook after you are finished with a class, you may either print it (using the "Print" icon in the toolbar), or select and copy the entire contents of the notebook and paste into another application such as Microsoft Word.

To open your Life Notebook, click the Life Notebook link or button.

  • The link is located on the top row of your classroom screen.
  • The Life Notebook button appears in the right-hand panel of the classroom screen whenever you come to a Life Notebook question.

When you click the link or button, your Life Notebook will appear in the left-hand panel.

The notebook is a simple text editing window. It includes some basic formatting tools which you may use to make your writing clearer and more organized, but how or whether you use them is entirely up to you. The following diagram describes these tools.

LN Toolbar
As with any text editor or word processor, it is important to save your work frequently while writing. Use the Save icon at the left end of the toolbar.

Whenever you leave the Life Notebook, either by launching something else in the left panel or by exiting the course, the computer will prompt you to save your work. Be sure to answer "OK" to the prompt.
