a fathers discipline,2
but a scoffer3
does not listen to rebuke.
13:2 From the fruit of his lips4

whoever opens wide his lips8
will have ruin.9
13:4 The soul of the sluggard10
craves,11
but has nothing;
but the soul of the diligent shall be abundantly satisfied.12

but the wicked act vilely and shamefully.14
13:6 Righteousness15
guards the one who has integrity,16
but wickedness17
overthrows the sinner.
13:7 There is one who makes himself out as rich, and yet he has nothing;
another makes himself out to be poor, and yet he has much wealth.18
13:8 The ransom19
of a persons20
life are his riches,
but the poor hear no threat.21
13:9 The light22
of the righteous shines brightly,23
but the lamp24
of the wicked goes out.25
13:10 With pride26
comes only27
contention,
but wisdom is with the well-advised.28
13:11 Wealth from nothing29
shall be diminished,30
but whoever gathers it little by little31
shall make it increase.

makes the heart sick,33
but a longing fulfilled34
is a tree of life.
13:13 The one who despises the word35
will pay for it,36
but whoever fears a command will37
be rewarded.38
13:14 The instruction of the wise is a fountain of
life,39
to turn40
people41
from the snares of death.42
13:15 Good understanding43
gives grace,
but the way of the unfaithful is harsh.44
13:16 Every shrewd45
person acts with knowledge,
but a fool displays46
his folly.
13:17 A wicked messenger falls47
into trouble,48
but a faithful envoy49
brings healing.
13:18 The one who neglects50
discipline comes to poverty and shame,
but whoever regards reproof will be honored.51
13:19 A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul,
but turning from evil is an abomination to fools.52
13:20 The one who walks53
with the wise grows wise,
but a companion of fools suffers harm.54
13:21 Evil55
pursues sinners,
but the righteous shall be repaid with good.56
13:22 A good person leaves an inheritance57
for his childrens children,
but the wealth of a sinner is stored up for the righteous.58
13:23 There is abundant food in the field59
of the poor,
but there is what is swept away for lack of justice.60
13:24 The one who spares his rod61
hates62
his child,63
but whoever loves him is disciplines him early enough.64
13:25 The righteous eats to the satisfaction of his
appetite,65
but the belly of the wicked shall lack food.66
