14:1 Every wise woman1
builds2
her house,3
but the foolish with her own hands tears hers4
down.
14:2 The one who walks in his uprightness fears the LORD,
but whoever is perverted5
in his ways despises Him.
14:3 For6
the mouth of a fool there is a rod for pride,7
but the lips8
of the wise protect them.
14:4 Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean;
but by the strength of an ox there is an abundant harvest.9
14:5 A truthful witness does not lie,
but a false witness breathes out lies.10
14:6 The scorner11
seeks wisdom, but finds none,12
but knowledge is easy13
to the one who has discernment.
14:7 Go from the presence of a foolish person,14
for you did not perceive15
lips of knowledge.16
14:8 The wisdom of the shrewd person17
is to discern18
his way,
but the folly of fools is deception.19
14:9 Fools mock20
at reparation,21
but among the upright there is favor.22
14:10 The heart knows its own bitterness,23
and with its joy no one else24
can share.25
14:11 The house26
of the wicked shall be destroyed,
but the tent of the upright shall flourish.
14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man,27
but the end of it is the way of death.28
14:13 Even in laughter the heart may ache,29
and the end30
of joy may be31
heaviness.
14:14 The unreliable person32
shall have his fill33
from his own ways,
but a good person shall be rewarded34
for his.
14:15 A simple person35
believes every word,
but the shrewd person discerns his steps.36
14:16 A wise person fears37
and turns from evil,
but a fool is overbearing38
and confident.39
14:17 A person who has a quick temper40
does foolish things,
and one with crafty devices is hated.41
14:18 The simple inherit42
folly,
but the shrewd43
are crowned44
with knowledge.
14:19 Those who are evil will bow45
before those who are good,
and the wicked at the gates46
of the righteous.
14:20 A poor person is hated47
even by his neighbors,
but those who love the rich are many.
14:21 The one who despises his neighbor sins,
but whoever is gracious to the needy is blessed.
14:22 Do not those who devise48
evil go astray,
but those who plan good exhibit49
faithful covenant love.50
14:23 In all hard work51
there is profit,
but talking about it52
only brings53
poverty.54
14:24 The crown of the wise is their riches,55
but the folly of fools remains folly.56
14:25 A true witness rescues lives,57
but the one who breathes lies brings58
deception.59
14:26 In the fear of the LORD one has60
strong confidence,61
and for his children it will be a refuge.62
14:27 The fear of the LORD63
is a fountain of life,
to turn64
people65
from the snares of death.
14:28 A kings glory is66
the abundance of people,
but the lack of people is the ruin67
of a ruler.
14:29 The one who is slow to anger has great understanding,
but the one who has a quick temper68
exalts69
folly.
14:30 The life of the flesh is a heart of healing,70
but envy71
is the rottenness of the bones.72
14:31 The one who oppresses the poor reproaches73
his Maker,
but whoever shows favor74
to the needy honors Him.
14:32 The wicked will be cast down in his trouble,75
but the righteous even in death76
have refuge.77
14:33 Wisdom rests in the heart of the discerning;
even in the inwards part of fools she is known.78
14:34 Righteousness exalts79
a nation,
but sin is a disgrace80
to any people.
14:35 The favor of the king is for a wise81
servant,
but his wrath comes upon one who deals shamefully.
