6:1 The word of the LORD came to me saying: 6:2 Son of man, set your face against¹ the mountains of Israel and prophecy against them, 6:3 and say: Mountains of Israel,² Hear the word of the Lord GOD,³ thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains and to the hills, to the ravines and to the valleys: I am bringing a sword against you and I will destroy your high places.⁴ 6:4 Your altars will become desolate and your sun-pillars will be shattered, and I will make your slain fall before your idols.⁵ 6:5 I will place the corpses of the sons of Israel before their idols and I will scatter your bones around your altars. 6:6 In all your habitations, the cities will be wasted and the high places desolated so that your alters will be wasted and desolate, your idols will be smashed and demolished, your sun-pillars cut down, and what you have made wiped out.⁶ 6:7 The slain will fall in your midst and you will know that I am the LORD.⁷ 6:8 But I will cause some to remain among you, those survivors of the sword among the nations when you are scattered in the lands. 6:9 And your survivors will remember me among the nations where they are taken captive, how I was crushed by their unfaithful⁸ heart which turned from me and their eyes which played the prostitute after their idols. Then they will visibly⁹ loathe themselves for the evil things they have done, for all their abominations. 6:10 And they will know that I am the LORD; I did not speak in vain in order to bring this judgment¹⁰ against them. 6:11 Thus says the Lord GOD: Clap with your hand and stomp your foot, and say, Alas for all the evil abominations of the house of Israel who will fall by the sword and by famine and by pestilence.¹¹ 6:12 The one far away will die by pestilence, the one close by will fall by sword, and the remaining one and the spared one will die by famine. Thus I will spend my wrath upon them. 6:13 And you will know that I am the LORD when their slain ones are in the midst of their idols around their altars. On every high hill and at the tops of the mountains; and under every green tree and under the oak,¹² the place where they have offered a pleasing aroma to all their idols. 6:14 I will stretch out my hand against them¹³ and I will make the land a desolation and a waste from the wilderness to Diblah¹⁴ in all their habitation. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
