10:1 The Proverbs of Solomon
A wise child1
makes a father rejoice,2
but a foolish3
child4
is a grief to his mother.5
10:2 Treasures of wickedness6
do not profit,
but righteousness7
delivers from death.8
10:3 The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry,9
but he casts away10
the craving11
of the wicked.
10:4 The one who deals with a slack hand12
becomes poor,13
but the diligent hand brings wealth.
10:5 The one who gathers crops in the summer is
a wise14
son,
but the one who sleeps15
during the harvest is a son that causes shame.
10:6 Blessings16
are upon the head of the righteous,
but violence covers17
the mouth of the wicked.
10:7 The memory18
of the righteous shall be for a blessing,
but the name of the wicked will rot.19
10:8 The wise in heart will accept command,
but the one talking foolishness20
will come to ruin.21
10:9 The one who walks with integrity22
will walk securely,
but the one who perverts23
his ways will be found out.
10:10 The one who winks24
with the eye causes sorrow,
but the one talking foolishness25
will come to ruin.
10:11 A fountain of life26
is the mouth27
of the righteous,
but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.28
10:12 Hatred29
stirs up dissension,
but love covers all transgressions.30
10:13 On the lips of the one who is discerning31
wisdom is found,
but a rod32
is for the back of one who lacks understanding.
10:14 Those who are wise33
store up34
knowledge,
but the mouth of a fool is imminent35
destruction.
10:15 The wealth of a rich person is his strong
city,36
but poverty is the ruin37
of the poor.
10:16 The income38
of the righteous is life;
the increase of the wicked is sin.39
10:17 The one who heeds discipline is40
in the way to41
life,
but the one who forsakes42
reproof leads others astray.
10:18 The one who hides hatred has lying lips,43
and whoever spreads slander44
is a fool.45
10:19 In the abundance of words transgression is
not lacking;46
but the one who refrains47
his lips is wise.
10:20 The tongue48
of the righteous is choice silver,49
but the heart of the wicked is of little value.
10:21 The lips of the righteous feed50
many,
but the foolish die51
for lack of understanding.
10:22 The blessing of the LORD enriches,52
and He adds no painful toil53
with it.
10:23 It is like sport54
for the fool to do55
wickedness,56
and so is wisdom for the one who has discernment.
10:24 What the wicked fears57
will come upon him,
what the righteous desire58
will be given.59
10:25 When the storm60
passes through, the wicked are swept away,61
but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.62
10:26 As vinegar to the teeth and as smoke to the
eyes,63
so is the sluggard to those64
who send him.
10:27 The fear of the LORD adds life,65
but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.66
10:28 The hope67
of the righteous is joy,
but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.68
10:29 The way of the LORD69
is a stronghold for the upright,70
but it is destruction71
for the workers of iniquity.
10:30 The righteous shall never be moved,72
but the wicked shall not inhabit the land.73
10:31 The mouth of the righteous bears the fruit74
of wisdom,
but the tongue of the perverse75
will be cut off.
10:32 The lips of the righteous know76
what is pleasing,77
but the mouth of the wicked is perversion.
