45:1 Then Joseph was not able to control himself before all those who stood by him,1 and he cried out, Make everyone go out from my presence! So no one remained2 with him when Joseph made himself known to his brothers. 45:2 And he let himself weep aloud,3 and the Egyptians heard it, and the household of Pharaoh heard about it.4
45:3 And Joseph said to his brothers, I am Joseph, is my father still alive? And his brothers were not able to answer him because they were dumbfounded before him. 45:4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, Come near me. And they drew near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. 45:5 And now, do not be distressed, and do not be angry with yourselves that you sold me here,5 for God sent me6 before you to preserve life. 45:6 For these two years the famine has been in7 the land; and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor reaping. 45:7 And God sent me8 before you to preserve you9 as a remnant on the earth, and to save you alive10 by a great deliverance.11
45:8 So now, it is not you who sent me here, but God. And he has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord over all his household, and ruler over all the land of Egypt. 45:9 Now go up to my father quickly,12 and say to him, `Thus says Joseph your son: God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me. Do not delay. 45:10 And you will live13 in the land of Goshen, and you will be near me, you, and your children, and your grandchildren, and your flocks, and your herds, and everything that you have. 45:11 And I will provide you with food14 there, because there are five more years of famine, lest you become poor, you, and your household, and everyone who belongs to you.
45:12 Here, your own eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is indeed I15 who speaks to you. 45:13 So tell16 my father about all my honor in Egypt, and about everything you have seen; but bring my father down here quickly.17
45:14 Then he fell on the neck of his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin wept on his neck. 45:15 And he kissed all his brothers and wept over them. And after this his brothers talked with him.
45:16 Now the report18 was heard in the household of Pharaoh, saying, Josephs brothers have arrived. And it pleased19 Pharaoh and his servants. 45:17 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, Say to your brothers, `Do this: Load your animals and go20 to the land of Canaan, 45:18 and fetch your father and your households and come to me, and I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you will eat21 the fat of the land. 45:19 You are also commanded to say,22 `Do this: Take for yourselves carts from the land of Egypt, for your little ones and for your wives; and bring23 your father and come. 45:20 Dont worry24 about your things, for the best of all the land of Egypt will be yours.
45:21 So the sons of Israel did this. And Joseph gave them carts, in accordance with the instruction25 of Pharaoh; and he gave them provisions for the way. 45:22 To all of them he gave each man changes of cloaks,26 but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver and five changes of cloaks. 45:23 And to his father he sent this:27 ten donkeys loaded with the best products of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain and food and provision for his father for the journey. 45:24 Then he sent his brothers on their way, and they departed; but he said to them, Do not be stirred in fear28 up along the way.
45:25 So they went up from Egypt and came to the land of Canaan, to their father. 45:26 And they told him, saying, Joseph is still alive, and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt! And Jacobs heart became weak,29 for he could not believe them.30 45:27 But when31 they told him all the words of Joseph, that he had said to them, and when he saw the carts that Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived. 45:28 And Israel said, Enough. Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.
