14:1 It happened at that time that 1 Amraphel, king of Shinar, Arioch, king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer, king of Elam, and Tidal, king of nations,2 14:2 went to3 war against Bera, king of Sodom, Birsha, king of Gomorrah, Shinab, king of Admah, Shemeber, king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).4 14:3 All these joined forces together5 in the Valley of Siddim, which is the Salt Sea.6 14:4 For twelve years7 they served Kedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year8 they rebelled. 14:5 And in the fourteenth year, Kedorlaomer and the kings who were with him came and defeated9 the Rephaites in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, the Emites in Shaveh Kiriathaim, 14:6 and the Horites in their hill country of Seir, as far as El Paran, which is near the desert.10 14:7 Then they came again11 against12 En Mishpat, which is Kadesh, and they defeated all the territory of the Amalekites, as well as the Amorites who were living in Hezezon Tamar.
14:8 Then the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) went out13 and set the battle in order in the Valley of Siddim against them, 14:9 against Kedorlaomer, king of Elam, and Tidal, king of nations, and Amraphel, king of Shinar, and Arioch, king of Ellasar, four kings against five. 14:10 Now the Valley of Siddim was full of pits of bitumen.14 When the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled they fell15 there; but some survivors16 fled to the hills.17 14:11 The conquerors18 took all the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food and went off. 14:12 And they took Lot, Abrams nephew19 and his possessions and they went offbecause he had been living in Sodom.20
14:13 A fugitive21 came and told Abram the Hebrew.22 Now Abram was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, the brother of Eshcol and Aner; and they were allied23 with Abram.24 14:14 When25 Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive,26 he roused out27 his 318 trained men, those born in his household, and he pursued the invaders28 as far as Dan.29 14:15 Then, during the night,30 he divided his forces31 against them and defeated them and chased them as far as Hobah, which is north32 of Damascus. 14:16 So he brought back all the possessions; and he also brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, and also the women and the rest of33 the people.
14:17 And after he returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh, that is, the Kings Valley.34 14:18 And Melchizedek, king of Salem,35 brought out bread and wine. Now he was the priest of the Most High God.36 14:19 He blessed37 Abram, and said,
14:21 Then the king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the people and take the possessions for yourself. 14:22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, I raise my hand45 to the LORD, the Most High God, Creator of heaven and earth, and swear46 14:23 that I will take nothing47 that belongs to you, not even a thread or the thong of a sandal, lest you should say, `It is I48 who made Abram rich. 14:24 I will take nothing49 except only that which the young men have eaten; and as for the share of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre, let them take their share.
