28:1 And you, bring near¹ to you Aaron your brother and his sons with him, from among the Israelites, that they may minister to me as priests² before me, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons. 28:2 And you will make holy garments³ for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty.⁴ 28:3 And you⁵ will speak to all who are wise-hearted,⁶ whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom,⁷ that they may make⁸ the garments of Aaron to sanctify him⁹ that he may minister to me as a priest. 28:4 Now these are the garments which they will make: a pouch,¹⁰ and an ephod, and a robe, and a woven tunic, and a turban, and a sash; and they will make holy garments for Aaron your brother and for his sons, that they may minister to me as a priest. 28:5 And they will take gold, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen.

28:6 And they will make the ephod¹¹ of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of fine twined linen, the work of an artistic designer. 28:7 It will have two shoulder pieces attached to two of its corners,¹² so it can be joined together.¹³ 28:8 And the artistically woven waistband¹⁴ of the ephod which is on it is to be like it, of one piece with the ephod,¹⁵ of gold, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and of fine twined linen.

28:9 And you will take two onyx stones, and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel,¹⁶ 28:10 six¹⁷ of their names on one stone, and the six remaining names on the second stone, according to the order of their birth.¹⁸ 28:11 You will engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Israel with the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a seal;¹⁹ you will make them to be set²⁰ in gold filigree²¹ settings 28:12 And you will put the two stones on the shoulders of the ephod, stones of memorial for the sons of Israel; and Aaron will bear their names before Yahweh on his two shoulders for a memorial.²² 28:13 And you will make filigree settings of gold, 28:14 and two braided chains of pure gold, like a cord, and attach the chains to the settings.

28:15 And you will make a pouch of decision²³ the work of an artistic designer; you will make it after the manner of the ephod, of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and of fine twined linen will you make it. 28:16 It will be square²⁴ when²⁵ doubled, nine inches²⁶ long and nine inches wide. 28:17 And you will set in it a setting for stones, four rows of stones, a row of ruby, a topaz, and a beryl—the first row; 28:18 and the second row, a turquoise, a sapphire, and an emerald; 28:19 and the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst; 28:20 and the fourth row a chrysolite, an onyx, and a jasper.²⁷ They will be enclosed in gold in their filigree settings. 28:21 And the stones will be for the names of the sons of Israel, twelve, according to the number of²⁸ their names; each name according to the twelve tribes will be like²⁹ the engravings of a seal.

28:22 And you will make for the pouch braided chains like cords of pure gold. 28:23 And you will make for the pouch two gold rings, and you will attach³⁰ the two rings to the upper³¹ two ends of the pouch. 28:24 And you will attach the two gold chains to the two rings at the ends of the pouch; 28:25 and the other³² two ends of the two chains you will attach to the two settings, and you will attach them³³ to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front of it. 28:26 And you will make two rings of gold, and put them on the other³⁴ two ends of the pouch, on its edge which is on the inner side of the ephod. 28:27 And you will make two more³⁵ gold rings and attach them to the bottom of the two shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the juncture above the waistband of the ephod. 28:28 And they will tie the pouch by its rings to the rings of the ephod by blue cord, so that it may be above the waistband of the ephod, and that the pouch will not be loose from the ephod. 28:29 And Aaron will bear the names of the sons of Israel in the pouch of decision on his heart,³⁶ when he goes into the holy place, for a memorial before Yahweh continually.

28:30 And you will put into the pouch of decision the urim and the thummim;³⁷ and they will be on Aaron’s heart, when he goes in before Yahweh. And Aaron will bear the judgment³⁸ of the Israelites on his heart before Yahweh continually.

28:31 And you will make the robe³⁹ of the ephod completely blue. 28:32 And there will be an opening⁴⁰ in its top⁴¹ in the center of it. There will be an edge all around the opening of it, the work of a weaver,⁴² like the opening of a collar,⁴³ so that it cannot be torn.⁴⁴ 28:33 And you will make pomegranates⁴⁵ of blue and of purple and of scarlet all around its hem;⁴⁶ and bells of gold between them all around.

28:34 A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, all around the hem of the robe. 28:35 And the robe⁴⁷ will be on Aaron as he ministers,⁴⁸and his sound will be heard⁴⁹ when he enters the Holy Place before Yahweh and when he leaves, so that he does not die.

28:36 And you will make a plate⁵⁰ of pure gold, and engrave on it after the fashion of⁵¹ the engravings of a seal: “Holiness to Yahweh.”⁵² 28:37 And you will attach to it a blue cord that it may be⁵³ on the turban; it is to be⁵⁴ on the front of the turban. 28:38 And it will be on Aaron’s forehead ; and Aaron will bear the iniquity of the holy things,⁵⁵ which the Israelites will sanctify by all their holy gifts;⁵⁶ and it will always be on his forehead, for their acceptance⁵⁷ before Yahweh. 28:39 And you will embroider⁵⁸ the tunic of fine linen, and you will make the turban of fine linen, and you will make the sash the work of the variegator.

28:40 And for Aaron’s sons you will make tunics; and you will make sashes for them, and you will make headbands⁵⁹ for them, for glory and for beauty.

28:41 And you will clothe them, Aaron your brother and his sons with him; and you will anoint them⁶⁰ and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister to me as priests. 28:42 And make for them linen undergarments to cover the body;⁶¹ they will cover⁶² from the loins to the thighs. 28:43 And they will be on Aaron and his sons when they go in⁶³ to the Tent of Meeting, or when they draw near⁶⁴ to the altar to minister in the holy place, so that they bear no iniquity and die.⁶⁵ It will be a perpetual ordinance for him and for his descendants⁶⁶ after him.⁶⁷
