7:1 So Yahweh said to Moses, “See, I have made you a god1 to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet.2 7:2 You will speak3 all that I command you;4 and Aaron your brother will speak to Pharaoh that he may release5 the Israelites from his land. 7:3 But I will harden6 Pharaoh’s heart. And although I will multiply7 my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt, 7:4 Pharaoh will not listen to you.8 And I will lay my hand9 on Egypt and bring out my hosts,10 my people the Israelites, from the land of Egypt with great judgments. 7:5 Then11 the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh, when I stretch out my hand12 over Egypt, and bring out the Israelites from among them.

7:6 And Moses and Aaron did just as Yahweh commanded them; so they did. 7:7 Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.

7:8 Yahweh said13 to Moses and Aaron,14 7:9 “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Do15 a miracle,’ then you will say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and cast in before Pharaoh, and it will become16 a serpent.” 7:10 When17 Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, they did so, just as Yahweh had commanded them—Aaron cast18 his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants and it became a serpent.19 7:11 Then Pharaoh also summoned wise men and sorcerers,20 and the magicians21 of Egypt by their secret arts22 did the same thing. 7:12 Each man23 cast down his staff, and they became serpents. And the staff of Aaron swallowed up their staffs. 7:13 And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened,24 and he did not listen to them, just as Yahweh had said.

The First Blow:25 Water to Blood

7:14 And Yahweh said to Moses, “The heart of Pharaoh is hardened;26 he refuses to release27 the people. 7:15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning when28 he goes out to the water, and position yourself29 to meet him by the edge of the Nile;30 and take31 in your hand the rod32 which you turned into a snake. 7:16 And you will say to him, ‘Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you to say,33 ‘Release my people, that they may serve me34 in the desert!’ But up til now35 you have not complied. 7:17 Thus says Yahweh, ‘In this you will know that I am Yahweh: I am going to strike36 the water of the Nile with the rod that is in my hand, and it will be turned into blood.37 7:18 And fish38 in the Nile will die, and the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will be unable39 to drink the water of the Nile.” 7:19 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers and over their canals,40 and over their ponds and over all their reservoirs,41 that they may become42 blood.’ And blood will be throughout43 the land of Egypt, even in the wooden vessels and in the stone vessels.” 7:20 And Moses and Aaron did so44 as Yahweh had commanded. Moses raised45 the rod46 and struck the water of the Nile before the eyes of47 Pharaoh and before the eyes of his servants;48 and all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood.49 7:21 When the fish50 that were in the Nile died, the Nile began51 to stink, so that the Egyptians were not able to drink water from the Nile. Blood52 was throughout all the land of Egypt. 7:22 But the magicians of Egypt did the same53 by their secret arts, and so54 the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not listen to them—just as Yahweh had said. 7:23 And Pharaoh turned and went into his house. He did not even take this to heart.55 7:24 All the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink,56 because they were not able to drink from the water of the Nile.

The Second Blow: Frogs57
