26:1 When the time comes1 that you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, and you occupy it and live in it, 26:2 you must take the first of all the produce that you bring out of the ground that he2 is giving you, and you must place it in a basket and walk to the place where he3 has chosen to locate4 his name.5 26:3 And you must go to the priest in office6 in those days and say to him, I declare today to the LORD your7 God that I have come to the land that the LORD8 swore to our ancestors to give us. 26:4 The priest will then take the basket from you9 and set it before the altar of the LORD your God. 26:5 And you shall affirm10 before the LORD, A wandering11 Aramean12 was my father, and he went down to Egypt and sojourned there few in number; but he became there a great, powerful, and populous people. 26:6 But the Egyptians mistreated and oppressed us, assigning to us burdensome labor. 26:7 So we cried out to the LORD, God of our ancestors, and he13 heard us14 and saw our humiliation, toil, and oppression. 26:8 Therefore, the LORD brought us out of Egypt by powerful hand and extended arm, with great fearsomeness, signs, and wonders. 26:9 And he brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey. 26:10 So now, look! I have brought the first of the produce of the ground that the LORD has given me. And you will set it down before the LORD your God and worship15 before him.16 26:11 Thus you will rejoice at all the good things that the LORD your God has given you and your family,17 you, the Levite, and the sojourner among you.
Presentation of the Third Year Tithe26:12 When you finish tithing all18 your income in the third year, the year of tithing, you must give it to the Levite, the sojourner, the orphan, and the widow so that they might eat to their satisfaction19 in your villages. 26:13 Then you shall say before the LORD your God, I have removed the sacred thing20 from my house and given it to the Levite, the orphan, and the widow just as you have commanded me;21 I have not violated nor forgotten your commandments. 26:14 I have eaten nothing when mourning, nor removed anything while unclean, nor offered anything to the dead;22 I have obeyed23 you24 and have done everything you have commanded me. 26:15 Look down from your holy habitation in heaven and bless your people Israel and the land you have given us, just as you promised our ancestors, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Narrative Interlude26:16 Today the LORD your God is commanding you to keep these statutes and ordinances, something you must do25with all your heart and being. 26:17 You have today declared the LORD to be your God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, commandments, ordinances, and to obey him.26 26:18 And the LORD has today declared you to be his special people (as he already said to you) so that you might keep all his commandments, 26:19 and that he might elevate you above all the nations he has made as a cause of praise, as a name, and as an honor, and that you might be a holy people to the LORD your God as he has said.
