16:1 Observe the month Abib1 and keep the Passover to the LORD your God, for in that month2 he3 brought you by night out of the land of Egypt. 16:2 You must sacrifice the Passover animal to him,4 from the flock and the herd, in the place he5 will choose to locate his name. 16:3 You may not eat leaven with it; for seven days you must eat the unleavened bread symbolic of affliction with it (for you came out of Egypt hurriedly), so that you might remember for the rest of your life the day you came out of the land of Egypt. 16:4 There must not be a scrap of leaven within your land6 for seven days, nor must any of the meat you sacrifice on the evening of the first day remain overnight.7 16:5 You may not sacrifice the Passover in just any8 of your villages9 that the LORD your God is giving you, 16:6 but you must sacrifice the Passover in the evening in10 the place he11 will choose to locate his name, at sunset, the time you came out of Egypt. 16:7 You must boil and eat the Passover in the place he12 will choose; you shall return in the morning to your tents.13 16:8 You must eat unleavened bread for six days. The seventh day shall be for an assembly for the LORD your God; you may not do any work.
The Festival of Weeks16:9 You must count seven weeks; from the time you begin to harvest14 the standing grain you must begin to count seven weeks. 16:10 Then you shall celebrate the festival of Weeks15 before the LORD your God with the measure of your own voluntary offering16 that you will bring, just as he17 has blessed you. 16:11 You shall rejoice before him18you, your son, your daughter, your male slave, your female slave, the Levite in your villages,19 the alien, the orphan, and the widow in your midstin the place the LORD will choose to locate his name. 16:12 You shall furthermore remember that you were a slave in Egypt; thus, be careful to observe these statutes.
The Festival of Booths16:13 You must celebrate20 the festival of Booths21 for seven days, at the time of the grain and grape harvest.22 16:14 You shall rejoice in your festival, you, your son, your daughter, your male slave, your female slave, the Levite, the alien, the orphan, and the widow who are in your villages.23 16:15 You shall make festival seven days before the LORD your God in the place he24 will choose, for he25 will bless you in all your productivity and in whatever you do;26 thus, you will indeed rejoice! 16:16 Three times a year all your firstborn males must appear before the LORD your God in the place he will choose for the festivals of Unleavened Bread, Weeks, and Booths; and they must not appear before him27 empty-handed.28 16:17 Everyone must give as able,29 according to the blessing of the LORD your God that he has given you.
Provision for Justice16:18 You shall appoint judges and civil servants30 in all your villages31 that the LORD your God is giving you by your tribes, and they must judge the people fairly.32 16:19 You must not twist justice nor show favor. Do not take a bribe for bribes33 blind the eyes of the wise and distort the words of the righteous. 16:20 You must pursue only justice34 so that you might live and inherit the land the LORD your God is giving you.
Examples of Legal Cases16:21 You must not plant any kind of Asherah-tree1 near the altar of the LORD your God which you will build for yourself. 16:22 You must not erect a sacred pillar,2 a thing3 he4 detests.
