19:1 Better is a poor person who
walks in his integrity1
than one who is perverse in his lips2
and a fool.3
19:2 Also, the life4
without knowledge is not good,
and one who hastens with his feet5
misses the way.6
19:3 A persons folly7
subverts8
his way,
although9
his heart rages10
against the LORD.
19:4 Wealth adds many friends,
but a poor person is separated11
from his friend.12
19:5 A false witness13
will not go unpunished,
and the one who pours out lies will not escape.14
19:6 Many people seek favor15
from a ruler,
and everyone is the friend16
of the one who gives gifts.17
19:7 All the relatives18
of a poor person hate him.19
How much more do his friends go far from him!
He pursues with words, but they do not respond.20
19:8 The one who acquires wisdom21
loves his own soul;22
the one who preserves understanding shall prosper.23
19:9 A false witness will not go unpunished,
and the one who pours out24
lies will perish.25
19:10 Luxury is not appropriate26
for a fool.27
How much less for a servant to rule over princes.28
19:11 A persons wisdom29
postpones30
anger;
and it is his glory31
to pass over32
an offense.
19:12 The raging of the king is like33
the roaring of a lion,34
but his favor is like the dew on the grass.35
19:13 A foolish child36
is the ruin of his father,37
and a contentious wife38
is like39
a constant dripping.40
19:14 A house and wealth are the inheritance from
parents,41
but a prudent wife42
is from the LORD.
19:15 Laziness brings on43
a deep sleep,44
and the idle person45
will go hungry.46
19:16 The one who obeys commands guards47
his life;
the one who despises his ways48
shall die.49
19:17 The one who is gracious50
to the poor lends51
to the LORD,
and for his good deed52
He will repay him.53
19:18 Discipline your child, for54
there is hope;
but do not take it to heart55
so that you cause his death.56
19:19 A person with great anger bears the penalty;57
but if you deliver him from it, you will have to do it again.58
19:20 Listen to advice59
and receive discipline
that60
you may become wise61
in your latter end.62
19:21 There are many plans63
in a persons heart,64
but the counsel65
of the LORD, it66
shall stand.
19:22 The desire67
of a person is his loyal love;
and better is a poor person than a liar.68
19:23 The fear of the LORD leads69
to life,70
and he shall abide71
satisfied, he shall not be visited72
with evil.
19:24 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish;
and he will not even bring it back to his mouth!73
19:25 When74
you beat a scorner, the simpleton75
will learn prudence;76
and when you reprove a discerning person he will understand knowledge.77
19:26 The one who robs78
his father79
and drives out his mother
is a son80
who brings shame and disgrace.
19:27 Stop heeding81
discipline, my child,
and you will stray82
from the words of knowledge.
19:28 A crooked witness83
scorns justice,
and the mouth of the wicked devours84
iniquity.
19:29 Judgments85
are prepared for scorners,
and beatings for the backs of fools.
