34:1 And Yahweh said to Moses, Cut out1 two tablets of stone like the first, and I will write2 on the tablets the words which were on the first tablets which you smashed. 34:2 And be prepared3 in the morning, and go up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and station yourself4 for me there on the top of the mountain. 34:3 And no man will come up with you, neither let any man be seen throughout the mountain, neither let the flocks or the herds feed graze before that mountain. 34:4 So he cut out two tablets of stone like the first;5 and early in the morning Moses went up6 to Mount Sinai, just as Yahweh had commanded him; and he took in his hand two tablets of stone.
34:5 And Yahweh descended in the cloud and stood with him there; and he made proclamation of Yahweh by name.7 34:6 And Yahweh passed by before him and proclaimed:8 Yahweh, Yahweh,9 the compassionate and gracious10 God, slow to anger,11 and abounding in loyal love and faithfulness,12 34:7 keeping loyal love for thousands,13 forgiving iniquity, and transgression and sin. But he by no means leaves the guilty unpunished; visiting the iniquity14 of the fathers on the children and on the childrens children, to the third and fourth generation.
34:8 And Moses quickly bowed15 to the ground, and worshiped. 34:9 And he said, If now I have found favor in your sight, O Lord, let my Lord go in our midst, for it is a stiff necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.
34:10 And he said, I am going to make16 a covenant; before all your people I will do wonders such as have not been done17 in all the earth, nor in any nation. And all the people among whom you are will see the work of Yahweh, for it is a fearful thing that I am doing with you.18
34:11 Keep19 that which I am commanding you this day. I am going to drive out20 before you the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 34:12 Be careful that you do not make21 a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, where you are going, lest it should become a snare22 in your midst. 34:13 But you will destroy their altars, you will smash their images, and you will cut down their Asherah poles.23 34:14 For you will not worship24 any other god,25 for Yahweh, whose name26 is Jealous, is a jealous God. 34:15 Be careful27 not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, for when28 they prostitute themselves29 to their gods and sacrifice to their gods, then you will be invited,30 and you will eat from his sacrifice; 34:16 and you take31 from their daughters for your sons, and their daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, and they make your sons prostitute themselves to their gods. 34:17 You will not make molten gods for you.
34:18 You will keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days32 you will eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you; do this33 at the appointed time of the month Abib, for in the month Abib you came out of Egypt.
34:19 Every firstborn34 of the womb belongs to me, even every firstborn35 of your cattle that is a male,36 ox or sheep. 34:20 Now the firstling37 of a donkey you may redeem with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, then break its neck.38 You will redeem all the firstborn of your sons.
No one will appear before me empty handed.39
34:21 On six days40 you will labor, but on the seventh day you will rest;41 in the plowing time and in the harvest42 you are to rest.43
34:22 And you will observe44 the feast of weeks, the first fruits of the harvest of wheat, and the feast of ingathering at the end45 of the year. 34:23 At three times46 in the year all your men47 will appear before the Lord48 Yahweh, the God of Israel. 34:24 For I will drive out49 the nations before you, and enlarge your borders; and no man will covet50 your land when you go up51 to appear before Yahweh your God three times52 in the year.
34:25 You will not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither will the sacrifice from the feast of Passover remain until the morning.53
34:26 The first of the first fruits of your land you will bring to the house of Yahweh your God.
You will not cook a young goat in its mothers milk.54
34:27 And Yahweh said to Moses, Write55 these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel. 34:28 So he was there with Yahweh forty days and forty nights;56 he did not eat bread, and he did not drink water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten words.
The Radiant Face of Moses5734:29 Now when Moses came down58 from Mount Sinai with59 the two tablets of the testimony in his hand60 when he came down61 from the mountain, Moses62 did not know that the skin of his face shone63 while he talked with him. 34:30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Mosesthe skin of his face shone;64 and they were afraid to approach him. 34:31 But Moses called to them, so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him. Then Moses spoke to them. 34:32 And after this all the Israelites drew near; and he commanded them all that Yahweh had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. 34:33 When Moses finished65 speaking66 with them, he would67 put a veil on his face. 34:34 But when Moses went in68 before Yahweh to speak with him, he would remove the veil until he came out.69 Then he would come out and tell the Israelites that which he had been commanded.70 34:35 When the Israelites would see71 the face of Moses, that72 the skin of Moses face shone, Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in73 to speak with him.
