The Song of Triumph81
15:1 Then Moses and the Israelites
sang1
this song to Yahweh, saying,2
I will sing3
to Yahweh for he has triumphed gloriously,4
the horse and its rider5
has he thrown into the sea.
15:2 Yah is my strength and my song,6
and he has become my salvation;
this is my God and I will praise him,7
my fathers God, and I will exalt him.
15:3 Yahweh is a man of war,8
Yahweh is his name.
15:4 The chariots of Pharaoh9
and his army has he thrown into the sea,
and his chosen10
officers were drowned11
in the Sea of Reeds;
15:5 The depths have covered over them,12
they went down to the bottom13
like a stone.
15:6 Your right hand, O Yahweh, was majestic14
in power,
your right hand, O Yahweh, shattered the enemy.
15:7 And in the greatness of your majesty15
you have overthrown16
those who rise up against you,17
you sent forth18
your wrath;19
it consumed them20
like stubble.
15:8 And by the blast of your nostrils21
the waters were piled up,
the waters stood upright like a heap,22
and the deep waters was congealed in the heart of the sea.
15:9 The enemy said, I will chase,23
I will overtake,
I will divide the spoil;
my desire24
will be satisfied on them
I will draw25
my sword, my hand will destroy them.26
15:10 But27
you blew with your breath, and28
the sea covered them;
they sank29
like lead in the mighty waters.
15:11 Who is like you,30
O Yahweh, among the gods?31
Who is like you?majestic in holiness,
fearful in praises,32
working wonders?
15:12 You stretched out your right hand,
the earth swallowed them.33
15:13 By your loyal love you will lead34
the people
whom35
you have redeemed;
you will guide36
them by your strength to your holy habitation.
15:14 The people will hear37
and be afraid,
anguish38
will take hold39
of the inhabitants of Philistia.
15:15 Then the chiefs of Edom will be terrified,40
the leaders of Moab will be seized41
with trembling,
and the inhabitants of Canaan will melt away.
15:16 Fear and dread42
will fall43
on them,
by the greatness44
of your arm they will be as still as stone45
until46
your people pass over, O Yahweh,
until the people pass over, which you have bought.47
15:17 You will bring them in,48
and plant them in the mountain49
of your inheritance,
in the place, O Yahweh, you made50
for your dwelling,
the sanctuary, O LORD, your hands have established.
15:18 Yahweh will reign for ever and ever!
15:19 For the horse of Pharaoh went in
with his chariots, and his footmen into the seas;
and Yahweh brought again the waters of the sea on them,
but the Israelites went on dry land in the midst of the sea.
15:20 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of
Aaron, took a hand-drum in her hand, and all the women went out after her with
hand-drums and with dances.51
15:21 And Miriam sang antiphonally52
to them, Sing to Yahweh, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and
its rider has he thrown into the sea.53
The Bitter Water54
15:22 Then Moses caused Israel to journey55
from Yam Suph, and they went out into the desert of Shur. They went three days56
into the desert, and they found no water. 15:23
Then they came to Marah,57
but they were not able to drink58
the waters of Marah, because59
they were bitter.60
That is61
why its name was62
called Marah.
15:24 So the people murmured63
against Moses, saying, What can64
we drink? 15:25 He cried out65
to Yahweh, and Yahweh showed him66
a tree.67
When he cast it into the waters, the waters were sweetened. There he made for
them68
a binding ordinance,69
and there he tested70
them; 15:26 and said, If you will diligently
obey71
Yahweh your God, and do that which is right72
in his eyes, and give ear73
to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, then all74
the diseases75
which I put on the Egyptians I will not put on you, for I Yahweh am your healer.76
15:27 Then they came to Elim,77
where there were twelve wells of water, and seventy palm trees. And they camped
there by the waters.
