12:1 Yahweh said1 to Moses and to Aaron in the land of Egypt,2 12:2 This month is to be3 the beginning of months for you; it is to be4 for you the first of the months of the year.5 12:3 Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they each6 will take a lamb7 for themselves according to the house of their fathersa lamb for a house.8 12:4 And if any household9 is too small10 for the lamb,11 the man12 and his neighbor who is near to his house are to take13 a lamb according to the number of peopleyou will make your count for the lamb according to how much each one can eat.14 12:5 You must take15 a perfect16 animal, a male that is one year old;17 you may take18 it from the sheep or from the goats. 12:6 And you must take care of it19 until the fourteenth day of the same month,20 and then all the congregation of the assembly21 will kill them22 between the evenings.23 12:7 Then they will take some of the blood and put it on the two side posts and on the lintel, on the houses wherein they will eat it. 12:8 And they will eat the meat in the same night,24 roasted with fire, with unleavened cakes,25 and with bitter herbs will they eat it. 12:9 Do not eat it raw,26 or cooked in water, but roast it over the fire, its head, its legs, and its inner parts. 12:10 And you will leave nothing until morning, but that which remains of it until morning you must burn27 with fire. 12:11 And this is how you are to eat itdressed to travel,28 your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you are to eat it in haste.29 It is the Passover30 of Yahweh.31
12:12 And I will pass through32 the land of Egypt in the same33 night, and I will kill34 all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both of humans and of animals;35 and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment.36 I am Yahweh. 12:13 The blood will be37 a sign for you on your houses where you are: when I see38 the blood I will pass over you,39 and the plague40 will not be on you for a destroyer41 when I strike42 the land of Egypt.43
12:14 This day will become44 a memorial45 for you, and you will celebrate it as a festival46 to Yahwehyou will celebrate the feast perpetually as a lasting ordinance.47 12:15 For seven days48 you must eat49 bread made without yeast.50 Surely,51 on the first day you must put away the yeast from your houses, because anyone who eats leavened bread52 from the first day to the seventh day may be cut off53 from Israel.
12:16 And on the first day there will be a holy convocation,54 and on the seventh day there will be a holy convocation for you: no work of any kind will be done55 on them, only that which every person must eatit alone may be prepared for you. 12:17 And you will keep the Feast of Unleavened bread, because on this same56 day I brought your hosts57 out from the land of Egypt, and so you must keep this day perpetually as a lasting ordinance.58 12:18 In the first month,59 on the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, you will eat unleavened bread until the twenty-first day of the month in the evening. 12:19 For seven days60 leaven must not be found in your houses, for whoever eats that which is leavenedthat person61 will be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether a foreigner62 or one born63 in the land. 12:20 You will not eat anything leavened; in all your dwellings you must eat unleavened bread.
12:21 Then Moses summoned the elders of Israel, and said to them, Draw out64 and take small animals65 for yourselves according to your families; and kill the Passover. 12:22 And you will take a bunch of hyssop,66 and dip it in the blood that is in the basin,67 and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you will go out68 the door of his house until morning. 12:23 For Yahweh will pass through to strike Egypt; and when he sees69 the blood on the lintel and the two side posts, then Yahweh will pass over the door, and he will not permit the destroyer70 to enter into your houses to strike you.71 12:24 And you will observe this event for an ordinance for you and for your children for ever. 12:25 And it will be when you enter the land that Yahweh will give to you, just as he said, then you will observe72 this service. 12:26 And when your children say to you, What does this service mean73 to you?12:27 then you will say, It is the sacrifice74 of Yahwehs Passover, when he passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt, when he destroyed75 Egypt, and delivered our households. And the people bowed down low76 to the ground. 12:28 And then the Israelites went away and did as Yahweh had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.
The Deliverance from Egypt7712:29 It happened78 at midnightYahweh struck79 all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the prison, and all the firstborn of the cattle. 12:30 And Pharaoh got up80 in the night,81 he and all his servants and all Egypt; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was no house82 in which there was not someone dead. 12:31 And he summoned Moses and Aaron in the night, and he said, Get up, get out83 from the midst of my people, both you and your children; go and serve Yahweh as you have spoken.84 12:32 Also, take your flocks and your herds, just as you have spoken, and leave. But bless me also.85
12:33 And the Egyptians were urgent86 on the people, that they might send them out of the land quickly,87 for they were saying, We are all dead people. 12:34 And the people took their dough before it was leavened,88 their kneading troughs bound up in their clothes on their shoulders. 12:35 And the Israelites had done89 according to the word of Mosesthey had asked from Egypt articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing. 12:36 Yahweh90 gave favor to the people91 in the eyes of the Egyptians,92 and they gave them what they wanted,93 and so they plundered Egypt.94
12:37 The Israelites journeyed95 from Rameses96 and Sukkoth. There were about 600,000 men97 on foot, besides women and children.98 12:38 And a mixed multitude99 went up also with them, and flocks and herdsvery much cattle.100 12:39 And they baked cakes of unleavened bread with the dough that they had brought from Egypt, for it was not leavenedbecause they were thrust out101 of Egypt and were not able to tarry, neither102 could they prepare103 food for themselves.
12:40 Now the time of the dwelling of the Israelites, who lived in Egypt, was 430 years.104 12:41 And at the end of the 430 years, on the same day, all the divisions of Yahweh went out of the land of Egypt. 12:42 It was a night of watching for Yahweh to bring them out from the land of Egypt;105 and so106 on this night all Israel is to keep the vigil107 to Yahweh for generations to come.
Participation in the Passover10812:43 And Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the Passover. No foreigner may109 share in eating it.110 12:44 But every mans servant that is bought for money, when you have circumcised him, he may eat, 12:45 A foreigner and a hired worker must not eat of it. 12:46 It must be eaten in one house; you will not carry it about outside from one house to another. Neither will you break a bone of it. 12:47 The congregation of Israel will keep it.
12:48 And when a stranger will live111 with you, and will keep the Passover to Yahweh, let all his males be circumcised,112 and then let him come near and keep it, and he will be as one who is born in the land113for no uncircumcised person will eat of it. 12:49 The same law will apply114 to him that is native-born and to the stranger who lives among you.
12:50 So all the Israelites did just as Yahweh commanded Moses and Aaronso did they. 12:51 And on that very day Yahweh brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their divisions.
