Replying to a post: "Reply" and "New Reply"

When you are ready to reply to a post in a discussion forum, you have two choices: Reply and New Reply. What's the difference?

Reply buttons

Reply means that you are replying directly to the post you are reading. When you post your reply, it is indented (in the hierarchy of the thread) to the next level deeper than the post you are currently reading.
Reply also, by default, includes the text of the post you are reading as a quote within the text of your new post. Since this can become very lengthy, we recommend that you delete all or part of the quoted text unless it is necessary to clarify your reply. If you decide to keep the quote, be sure to type your new post ABOVE the quoted text.

New Reply always creates a new reply to the first (top-level) post in the thread. Regardless of how deep (in the hierarchy) the post is that you're currently reading, your new reply will be indented only one level deeper than the first post in the thread.
New Reply does not contain any quoted text from other posts in the discussion.

In the example below, the underlined posts were created using New Reply. All other posts were created using Reply.
