Navigating in the Forums

Solution

IBS 2.7 > Class Discussions

All blue text in an IBS forum is clickable, so often the quickest and simplest way to move within the forums is simply by clicking the title of the forum, subforum, thread, or reply you want to read.

However, when you open a forum or subforum, you might not see the particular thread you're looking for. If this is the case, try scrolling down until you can see the dropdown menus at the bottom of the list of threads. You may need to change the sort order or select a different time period to view (i.e., lengthen the time period from "20 Days Ago" to "The Last Year" or "The Beginning").

Other features may allow you to find the thread you are looking for more quickly:
Forum navigation

  • The "View New Posts" and "View Today's Posts" links are useful if you are a regular reader of the forum and just want to see what's been added since the last time you looked.
    • "View New Posts" will show you all the threads that have been posted since the last time you logged in to Class Discussions.
    • "View Today's Posts" will show you everything that has been posted on today's date, even if you have already read it.
  • The "Search" function will help you find a particular thread based on any of several criteria, such as keywords, username of the person who posted it, number of replies, and date range in which it was posted.

For tips about moving within a thread to find a particular post (reply), see Viewing threads: Threaded vs Linear Mode.

After you have read the item you're looking for, there are a couple of ways to get back to the "higher level" of the thread or forum.

  • Your browser's "Back" button will take you back up the same path you came down, one page at a time.
  • At the top of each forum, thread, or discussion are "breadcrumbs". This is a listing of the hierarchy of forums, subforums, and threads that led to the item you are currently viewing. You may click any of these to go immediately to that level of the hierarchy.
