Using the NET Bible

Solution

IBS 2.7 > Classroom Functions

The NET (New English Translation) Bible is the property of Biblical Studies Press. It is a new translation created specifically for the purpose of making it available over the Internet at no cost to anyone who wants to use it for personal study. You can read more about the history and purpose of the NET Bible here.

You must be inside a classroom to launch the NET Bible in IBS. There are two ways to launch it.

  • At any time, you can click The Bible link located in the top row of your classroom screen. This launches the NET Bible in a new window.
  • In the text of an IBS course, there are many references to Scripture passages. These references are active links; clicking one launches the NET Bible and takes you directly to the referenced verse.
    • If the link is located in an article (left panel of your classroom screen), the NET Bible will launch in a new window.
    • If the link is located in the main body (right panel), the NET Bible will launch in the left panel.

Once you have the NET Bible open, you can:

  • Use the Bible outline to go to any chapter in the Bible. (Note: this applies only if you have opened the Bible from the icon; the outline is not available if you have opened it from a Scripture link).

  • Use the scroll bar along the right side of the window to move forward or backward in the current chapter.
  • Use the arrows at the top or bottom of each chapter to go to the next or previous chapter.
