Videos and Text Transcripts

Solution

IBS 2.7 > Classroom Functions

Many IBS courses include multimedia materials such as video, particularly in the Unit and Lesson Introductions. These materials can enhance your learning experience and do not require sophisticated computer equipment. However, if you are using a slow Internet connection, such as dial-up, you may find the videos cumbersome. If this is the case, you may read the text transcript of the video to understand the content without actually watching the video. Even if you are watching the video, you may still want to read the text transcript instead of, or in addition to, listening to the soundtrack that accompanies the video.

To read the text transcript, click the small blue "TEXT" button next to the video screen. The transcript will appear in a new window. In some cases, you may find that this window is hidden behind other windows on your computer screen. Use whatever method is appropriate on your computer to bring this window to the front. (In Windows, you can locate the transcript window on the task bar at the bottom of your screen and click it to bring it to the front.)

To play the video, click the "Play" button. This is a triangular arrow located on the video screen, either in the center or along the top or bottom edge. Its exact appearance and location may vary from one video to another. Additional video controls are shown in the diagram below.

It may take several seconds for the video to begin playing, so please be patient.

When the video starts playing, you may need to adjust your volume control. If you don't hear anything, make sure your computer's volume control is not set to "mute".

Some videos require that you have Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer. If the video does not play, you may need to install this program. The installation is free and fast. Go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ to install it.
